The Story
The Story
Asphodel is a larp campaign following a series of jobs that you, a citizen of the Underworld, have had the fortune of being tasked with. From entertaining the masses in the Coliseum to gaining the Olympian’s favour or causing havoc in all the realms, there is much to do, so let us begin!
The game is loosely based on Classical Ancient Greece, therefore player characters can come from any period before then, including the Heroic Age of legends. This is a fantastical alternate history where mythical creatures are real and present in daily life.
Meet your Host
A collection of Chthonic gods, led by Hades, have organised for a new town to be built in the Fields of Asphodel to act as an organisational hub for various Shades and Underworld denizens while they complete the tasks needed to keep the Underworld functioning properly. There has been an unusual amount of chaos lately, and rather than employ the help of Olympus, Hades has seen this as an opportunity for a select few to earn their space in Elysium, the final resting place of heroes. You must find the source of this chaos and resolve it before it seeps into the other realms.
Back in the mortal realm, there is significant conflict. If you were once human, you will have died long before the recent struggles for power between kings, but your children or grandchildren could very well be involved.
Hades and Persephone
King and Queen of the Underworld, these gods lead the chthonic pantheon in ensuring every mortal eventually makes their way to the Underworld – and stays there. They have ultimate power in this realm, and ultimate responsibility. But that also means a lot of paperwork to keep things running smoothly, which is what they spend most of their time doing nowadays.
Charon the Ferryman
Charon is the Chthonic god who rows along the rivers of the Underworld, transporting souls to different regions and collecting the newly deceased from Erebus. They charge a standard fee of 1 Obol per person for each trip across the Underworld’s rivers. Those travelling around will need 1 Obol each way, so make sure you all have enough for the return journey.
Event 1: 14-16 July 2023
You have been gathered by a mysterious hooded figure, and taken to create a new settlement of heroes in the plains of Asphodel. Creatures have been emerging from Tartarus, and you are tasked with defending this area, and finding a way to stop them more permanently.
Our heroes discover a locked Gateway where these Tartarus beasts gather, and work towards solving the puzzle of opening it, with promises that the solution to their problems lay beyond. While the heroes craft the key, they are visited by Persephone, who attempts to recruit individuals for her own use.
The Tartarus Gate is opened, and two heroes lost. But the area is safe for now…
Event 2: 5-7 July 2024
“ I often weep in fear of Tartaros: for the recess of Hades is grim, and the road down to it grievous; and it is certain those who go down do not come up again.”
– Anacreon
With the beasts of Tartarus dispatched and Gate secured, the restless dead of Asphodel prepare themselves for the unthinkable. Two Champions of their own have long leapt headlong into dreaded Tartarus, at the heels of the ones who would bring Doom upon all souls, mortal and Divine. They have not returned.
The attention of the Gods, much to the chagrin of all, is focused elsewhere. It seems all is not calm on Olympus. But Fate beckons our heroes onwards, presenting an opportunity on the anniversary of the loss of their friends. They must delve deep into the Underworld, beyond the bureaucracy of Hades, past the flow of the Styx, and into Darkest Tartarus. To learn what has become of their Champions, and what makes a hero willingly cross the line between dead and damned.
Event 3: tbc 2025
The final part of our initial trilogy; but most certainly not the end!
